In Association with EcoPorts Foundation and the European Sea Ports Organisation

The 5th International Ports and the Environment Conference and exhibition GreenPort 2010 will take place in Stockholm on 24-25 February 2010, in association with EcoPorts and ESPO.

Delegates will be gathering in Stockholm to discuss key port environmental issues such as: Climate Change, Port Authorities' green initiatives, Biodiversity and Natura 2000, the Port-City Relationship, Port Technology and Renewable Energy. One of the highlights of the programme will be the announcement of the results of the ESPO / EcoPorts Port Environmental Review 2009. The outcome of the review will form the basis for updating the ESPO Environmental Code of Practice and will provide the framework for adapting EcoPorts tools and for undertaking new research, development and application initiatives.

Announcing: GreenPort 2010
An Invitation from the Ports of Stockholm

"The Ports of Stockholm are delighted to be the host for GreenPort 2010, taking place from on 24 & 25 February. Participants will be able to see first-hand some of the most novel and committed city-port initiatives being executed anywhere in the world today.

Opportunities for contact with other countries and continents have been very important for Sweden and Stockholm, not least because of the country’s size and northern location. Shipping has historically provided the key. But the need for communication and transport has not diminished, it has grown. Running a port in Scandinavia has probably never been so exciting.

GreenPort 2010
However, ports today face serious challenges in their quest to achieve acceptable sustainability levels on two major fronts: Global and local. “Global” because all ports today operate in an increasingly complex, challenging and above all else, competitive environment; “local” because both the city and the port need to achieve – together – a balance to produce a “sustainable city”, the balance between a vibrant social, environmental and economic system.

In The Ports of Stockholm, our vision is to be one of the leading ports in environmental issues in Europe, and work to reduce the environmental impact of shipping and the transport sector. According to an international research report from the Université de Montréal, The Ports of Stockholm, as one of the world´s largest ports, is one of the leading ports in relation to environmental sustainability and protection. We believe we have made good progress, but we always strive for continuous improvement.

Stockholm is the venue and you are the Innovators!   We look forward to seeing you in 2010. "
